Waterman Center for the Arts

In the summer of 2019, Phase I of Waterman Center for the Arts building renovation was completed.  New York State invested in this project by awarding the Save the Lyon Commission a $75,000 grant.  The grant required the Save the Lyon Commission to have our matching amount of $75,000 in hand before work could begin. After several years of fundraising and seemingly endless paperwork, success was ours.  Visit the Events page to see pictures of the new sidewalk, required handicap accessible entrance, and new bathroom on the back side of the cafeteria. These are the first steps to opening the new Waterman Center for the Arts in the heart of the village.

A second New York State investment in this project was a Main Street grant for $60,000, which provided for a new roof over the cafeteria.

It is now time to tackle Phase II, the renovation of the cafeteria, which includes plans for a commercial kitchen and a small performance stage.  This large space will become a center for the community to use and enjoy for a variety of purposes.  Art activities and presentations, dinner theater, dances, YMCA after school programs, fitness classes, private events, the sky is the limit.

Haverling alumni, we need you!  We must raise funds for this exciting Phase II.  We have already received an amazing donation of equipment and installation of a new heating system for the annex.  Please consider a gift to this very worthy project in the heart of the Village of Bath.

To make this fun and bring that Haverling spirit to this effort, we are asking each class to reach a total donation equal to the amount of your graduation year, For example, members of the Class of 1968 would make their goal $1968, and Class of 1999 would set their goal at $1999. Just for the fun of competition, the Save the Lyon Commission is challenging classes to become one of our 20/20 Vision Partners by going above your class year to a total donation of $2020.

Be sure to tell us what year you graduated when you send in your donation.  We will keep track of your class total.  All donors will be invited to a preview “Doors are Open” event in the cafeteria.  Party in the cafeteria!
